What is Rorschach,
Art Is Insane ?

Hermann Rorschach’s father, the creator of the Rorschach test, was a painter, H. Rorschach chose medicine and studied psychiatry while considering becoming an artist like his father. As a young boy, he was nicknamed “kleck” (inkblot) by his friends, as he loved to paint using inkblots. Psychoanalysts such as Anzieu and Chabert state that the idea of creating a test from inkblots in their research is based on Leonardo da Vinci. The Rorschach cards, which Rorschach created in 1918 by integrating his artistic talents and experience in the field of medicine, were successful and accepted over time. H. Rorschach applied this test to 117 normal people with 288 patients to test for schizophrenia and thought disorders, and published his research in the book Psychodiagnostics in 1921. Today, Rorschach is used as a test that analyzes personality and the main dynamics of the person.

Rorschach has been the subject of movies, books, and many comics, as it is perhaps the most interesting of the psychological tests. But no one has produced a serious art project in this field so far. Photographer Mehmet Turgut, who likes to surprise people with his photo manipulations, created a new NFT collection consisting of 43 pieces by combining Rorschach with slow motion photography technique. While creating this project, he was inspired by the visual form of the test and named the collection “Rorschach, Art is Insane”

About This Collection

Rorschach, Art Is Insane is a collection consisting of 43 pieces of 1/1 artworks. In this project, there were 2 things to achieve high frame rates. A camera with high sensitivity to light and very high power lights. That’s why Red’s Gemini camera was chosen with its dual native iso sensor. In order to break the digital effect of high-resolution Red cameras and to give a more photographic taste, the FD series lenses were used that were produced by Canon in the 80s, which were modified by TLS company, which supplies lenses for Hollywood films, to be attached to today’s cinema cameras. Contrary to the rules of the cinema industry, the 180-degree shutter rule was nıt complied and increased to 1/600 shutter speeds in order to capture the photographic effect more and reduce motion blur. This required to use a total of 80,000w Arri brand tungsten lights to illuminate the background. Despite this, the light was insufficient for this shutter speed and the low light mode of the camera was saver here and it helped to reach 3200 ISO. For the model, a 4×4 butterfly and a 4×4 grid were set up on one side to get the effect of a classic photo setup and lit 3 Dinos with 12 bulbs at 12.000w power. A large generator truck was brought to the set to illuminate a total of 140,000w of light.

In post-production, the mirroring technique was used to create a 43-pieces collection selected from 2 hours of raw video. The connection ropes of the models flown with the Vertigo flying effects method were deleted frame by frame and all the data were finalized as 5k 150 frames and rendered.

FAQ

What is NFT?

A non-fungible token (NFT) is a non-interchangeable unit of data stored on a blockchain, a form of digital ledger. NFTs can also be associated with reproducible digital files such as photos, videos, and audio. NFTs use a digital ledger to provide a public certificate of authenticity or proof of ownership, but do not restrict the sharing or copying of the underlying digital files or the re- creation of identical NFTs. The lack of interchangeability (fungibility) distinguishes NFTs from blockchain cryptocurrencies, such as Bitcoin.
